High Rejection and Frequency Agile Optical Filtering of RF Signals Using a Rare Earth Ion-Doped Crystal

While photonics is broadly considered as a leading solution for analog RF processing, photonic filters often show limited out-of-band rejection. In this work we demonstrate high rejection and steepness bandpass filter based on spectral hole burning in rare earth ion-doped crystal. The obtained by programming frequency-selective absorption grating the With an experimental theoretical study identify optimal parameters filter. We achieve remarkable of 60 dB 45 at 50 MHz from edge filter, compliant with most demanding applications.
